Serious Sport hosted an event to support and raise awareness of the ongoing NHS Trust Organ Donation Week.
George Brann-Liff, who has been an Organ Donation Nurse Specialist at Hampshire Hospitals for the last five years, challenged members of our team to see whether it was easier to sign on to the Organ Donation Register (ODR) or to face Jimmy Anderson.
“I’m here today to help promote Organ Donations Week and encourage people to register their decision or at least tell their friends and family what they would like to do if they are faced with the possibility of becoming an organ donor.”

He used our bowling machine at Dummer Cricket Centre to replicate a Jimmy Anderson delivery, swinging both ways at 85mph, while a member of our team signed up.
Despite putting bat to ball a couple of times, including a Joe Root reverse ramp, he was defeated by both the team member registering and the machine that removed his middle stump.
The next challenge was whether a team member could sign up on the ODR before he did 50 push-ups.
Unsurprisingly, the ODR secured the victory again with George getting to a respectable 30 push-ups, considering he was in a pink morph suit, in the two minutes the process takes.

“Organ donation is very rare; you are more likely to need a transplant than be able to give one.
“We are encouraging people to make that decision before your friends and family are forced to make that decision for you.”

This is not the first time Serious Sport has helped the NHS Hampshire Hospitals, we provided the kit for the NHS blood and transplant organ donation team for their charity game against a team consisting of people who had benefitted from transplants.
