Serious Cricket Provides Ropley CC Breast Cancer Awareness Kit

Ropley Cricket Club hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness month event, which involved an afternoon of tape ball cricket, a cricket tea buffet, and a raffle, all while wearing personalised pink Serious shirts.

Ropley raised around £1,000 throughout the day and plenty of fun was had while creating important awareness. In keeping with the pink theme of the day, we produced a bright pink shirt with names on the back.

"Breast Cancer Awareness is so important because it could happen to anyone and can come out of the blue so people should be checking themselves but also in with each other."

Corrina Cazalet

The day was an emotional one as well as one of their players revealed she had been diagnosed with breast cancer recently.

"Here at Ropley we believe in supporting everyone's mental and physical health and Breast cancer Awareness is a big part of that especially when you have a women and girls team.

Cancer touches everyone’s lives and a little part of you always hopes it’s not me but we found that it was me! I checked myself and it was me.

It is important to support cancer patients because it is big and scary. Supporting an individual is by just being there, I have had friends support me every step of the way by sending texts or calling just to make sure I’m ok.

In terms of supporting charities, there are so many great charities to support, including Breast Cancer Now which has all kind of great information and leaflets, MacMillian provides great nurses and support, and there is even a charity that provide pre-chemo boxes filled with everything they will need."

Beth Cazalet, Mental Health Ambassador, Ropley CC

The importance of checking yourself is a big part of spreading awareness and there is a simple method that Ropley hopes to highlight.

"Breast Cancer Awareness month ensures that people understand the TLC - touch, look, and check which saves lives.

We are a community club so we were always going to support Breast Cancer Awareness and Sunday Tape Ball league cricket just fitted but unbeknownst to us one of our members has just been diagnosed with breast cancer so it is absolutely something we have supported this month and will continue to support."

Andrew Morris, Head Coach, Ropley CC Women and Girl's Team

"They say you should check your breasts regularly, at least once a month.

You’re looking for changes, touching to feel for any lumps, and if one breast is larger than the other. If you do find anything the best thing to do is contact your GP and if they are concerned they can send you to a consultant.

Hopefully, it won't be cancer because not every lump is cancer. One of the most important things about Breast Cancer Awareness Month is to highlight that help is out there and you are not alone."
