Steve is an ECB Advanced Coach (Level 3) with over 15 years coaching within the game in addition to many years playing club cricket. This extends specifically to a vast amount of experience coaching in a 121 environment, plus for the last 7 years has been working with players within the Hampshire Pathway.

Richard Hindley - Head Coach

Richard 'Hinders' Hindley brings a wealth of professional playing experience and a deep passion for the game to his role as Head Coach at Serious Cricket.


With an impressive coaching portfolio spanning over 20 years, Richard coordinates and oversees coaching programs both at our Cricket Centre and externally across various schools, clubs, district associations and county teams.


Recognisable as the face of our cricketing content on our social channels, Hinders embodies the spirit of cricket through his coaching expertise and engaging presence.

Steve Oliphant

Steve ‘Olly’ Oliphant is a key member of our coaching team and has a comprehensive understanding of both the technical and strategic aspects of cricket. He strives to create a positive and dynamic learning environment for players of all abilities. If he isn’t doing that he can often be found as a spare pair of hands in our retail outlet, busy warehouse, or even helping out behind our bar!

Greg Kennis

‘I am passionate about advancing your game, making my sessions player orientated to express your potential in any area from grassroots to the elite level.’


Having played England u19s, Surrey and Somerset as a pro, Greg Kennis has spent the last 18 years professionally coaching at Somerset County Cricket Club. A qualified ECB Level 4 coach, who has led the Talent Pathway and high-performance programmes, which underpinned his success coaching the professional players at Somerset, with them notably winning the One-Day Cup in 2019, Twenty20 Cup in 2023 and most recently, the 2nd XI T20 in 2024.


Greg has a wealth of experience in coaching young cricketers, having worked in schools in the early part of his coaching career and subsequently being integral in the production of home-grown players who have gone on to represent Somerset County Cricket club with great success.


He has infectious enthusiasm for the sport and a real passion for developing elite talent and growing participation alongside, facilitating young players to thrive, flourish and ultimately, fall in love with this great game.


 


 


 

Nathan Scarff

"MY SESSIONS ARE ROOTED IN A PLAYER CENTRED PHILOSOPHY TAILORING EACH SESSION TO ENSURE INDIVIDUAL NEEDS, BUILDING CONFIDENCE THROUGH ENCOURAGEMENT AND FOSTERING A POSITIVE INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT."


Nathan is a qualified PE teacher and Level 2 cricket coach with extensive experience at both grassroots and performance levels. He has coached elite youth squads for Suffolk Cricket, including leading the U15 girls’ team and supporting the U18s and Ladies 1st XI. His work involved high-level training delivery, fixture management, and coordinating regional tours across the South East.


Nathan also developed a bespoke girls’ cricket programme at St Mary’s School, Cambridge, culminating in a landmark trip to Lord’s. That iconic venue became a professional home for Nathan during his four-year tenure at the MCC Cricket Academy, where he coached players aged 3 to adult in group and 1-to-1 formats. His sessions spanned term-time courses, international university visits, and specialist events—delivered alongside some of the UK’s top coaching talent.


Known for his strategic approach and ability to connect across age groups, Nathan brings energy, professionalism, and a deep love for the game to every session. Whether working with aspiring professionals or complete beginners, Nathan’s personable style ensures every player feels seen, supported, and inspired to grow.

Josh Balcombe

Having progressed through the Hampshire County Age Groups from U10s to U18s, Josh has gained invaluable insight into diverse coaching methods, shaping their understanding of player development. They have competed at an elite level in the BUCS Southern Premier League and captained teams in various formats, combining technical expertise with leadership experience. Their coaching journey has involved working with juniors and seniors, designing programs to nurture talent, and fostering team cohesion while prioritizing individual growth.

• Played in the BUCS Southern Premier League for university cricket
